What is Equity Release?
It is a generic term used to describe the release of capital or income from a property. It is most often used to describe the range of products that exist to help retired individuals raise capital or income from their homes. Because there are specific names for specific products we enclose a link to the FSA guide for consumers which covers these definitions in some detail.
What are the benefits of Equity Release?
These could include:
- Raise capital for home-improvements and maintenance, helping the family, holidays or a new car.
- Releasing funds to top up your retirement income.
- Reduce inheritance tax liability.
- To help cover the cost of healthcare.
How much can I borrow?
This will depend on the value and status of your property and how much existing mortgage there is. It will also depend on your age and health. You can borrow either lump sums or a regular income or a combination of both.
How are we paid?
Any initial consultation will always be free of charge. Thereafter, we will agree with yourselves how we will be paid for the work that we do on your behalf. On many occasions we will receive a commission from a lender or insurance company. In addition to, or in substitution of this we may charge a fee of up to 1% of the loan amount. For example a fee of £1000 would be payable for a loan of £100000.
The fees we most often charge range between £0 and £500. All fees are notified in writing and agreed with yourselves before any work commences.
